Decently Domestic…Diets?

Print Friendly

Well, not really. Decently Domestic aka Me, doesn’t believe in diets. I’ve tried a bunch (which is what happens when you do exactly what you said you would never do while you are watching all of those “silly” girls on TLC not fitting into their wedding gowns , and purchase a dress that is too small, because you HAVE TO HAVE IT, and it’s on clearance, and is the last one in the store).

So long story…well, long. I did the crime, I did the time. I fit my dress. Now, almost 5 months later, and that dress probably wouldn’t even fit over my hips. OK, so maybe that is an exaggeration, but I can tell you that South Beach, and Atkins, and whatever else (I cannot remember) that I tried went right out the window.

This is why I don’t believe in diets. They are NOT sustainable. I had a goal, and I met it, but when it was over, I wanted to eat my freakin’ wedding cupcakes. So I did…ALL of the cupcakes.

Seriously though, even if it seems to work at the time, something that tells me “healthy eating” means not eating apples because they have too much sugar, but that I will lose weight by eating as much cheese and bacon as I want, as long as I don’t touch bread…well that just doesn’t make sense to me.

So, what am I getting at here?

Basically, it’s time to hold myself accountable. Winter, and all of it’s lovely, forgiving layers, is coming to an end. It’s time for me to pop that newlywed bubble, and get back to being healthy. I’ve been inspired by friends and fellow bloggers, like Fresh to Fearless and Fat Camp Girl, and I’ve decided to jump on the band-wagon.

Besides, how else am I going to rock these $200 cycling pants that I’ve just about convinced myself I need?

What does this mean for DD?

3 Things (they’re good, I promise)

1. More green food. And orange, and red, and purple, and yellow. Less brown. Recipes to go along with my rainbow food.

2. Nutritional information included on all food posts. This is something I’ve been meaning to do, I just keep forgetting. This way, I can still enjoy a muffin, but it will be more difficult to convince myself it’s OK to have three “because they’re healthy…they have whole wheat flour…”.

3. Baking to give away.
If you live in the Ottawa area, and would like some baked goods, please let me know! I won’t be able to go long without baking something. Yes, healthy-ish baking is possible, BUT I share one refrigerator between four people. There is only so much room! Also, sometimes I just can’t fight the urge to make some guilty pleasure, white flour, butter, delicious-ness. Then I eat one…and have the whole rest of the batch sitting there…calling my name. Share the love. Let the cookies call your name too.

  1. As you know, I’m already a huge fan of your baking – all of it. If extra treats are crowding your counters and your fridge, I’ll be glad to help you out with that at any time.

  2. oh how I completely understand this.. I’ve started biking indoor and my chip skittle diet is in full swing lol.. I know better just like you do .. I think its all about making it happen.

  3. Omg, I’ve tried so many diets, too. I feel that you’ve hit the nail on the head with aiming to be healthy rather than dieting. It’s what I’ve been doing for the last 6 months, and.I’ve lost about 20-25 lb.s… AND kept it off. Way better than any diet I’ve tried so far! Also, after all that, your brownies were insanely amazing, and I’d love to take baking off our hands!!!
